What is Vitamin B1?

Vitamin B1 is a water-soluble vitamin needed to treat carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Each cell in the body needs vitamin B1 to allow the body to donate fuel. Nerve cells also need vitamin B1 in order to function normally. Wheat germ, whole wheat, beans, peas, fish, peanuts and meat are good sources of vitamin B1. Vitamin B1 works at the same time with vitamin B2 and vitamin B3. For this reason, nutritionists generally suggest that vitamin B1 is taken in conjunction with other B vitamins or with a multivitamin supplement.
