Activated zeolite: broad-spectrum detoxification efficacy

The history of a discovery

It was in Japan in 1992 that a first patent application relating to the use of zeolite in the pharmaceutical and cosmetics fields was filed. This is followed in Cuba by the development of an anti-diarrhoeal medicine and in Italy the preparation of the first zeolite-based food supplement.

More recently, it is an experiment carried out in an animal husbandry that has drawn the attention of scientists to the properties of activated zeolite, where significant health improvements have been observed in the farms where the experiments were carried out.

In 1997, the first research began at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of zagreb, and then at the Ruder Boscovic Institute. The project gradually brought together other research institutes, faculties, clinics and hospitals in Austria and then in Germany.

In parallel with clinical trials, in vitro and in vivo toxicological analyses established the total safety of tribomechanical micronose-activated zeolite.

The public interest such as that of many scientists then developed in view of the effects of the zeolite on the state of health of the volunteers who were beginning to use it, with new testimonies from doctors who had offered their patients to combine it with medical treatments to strengthen the body. The results obtained showed the support that activated zeolite can provide during treatment and convalescence, in conjunction with medical treatments. Its use was often followed by improvements in the general condition, due to the strengthening of the anti-radical and immune defences, some symptoms such as fatigue and pain sometimes starting to lessen within a few days.

Tests were also carried out in dermatology and then on post-operative or ulcerative skin lesions. Rapid results were obtained, showing that the healing of the affected areas was clearly accelerated.

According to in vitro laboratory studies, activated zeolite is thought to behave as a superantigen, capable of significantly stimulating and reinforcing the chain reaction of immune regulation.

A major advance in Europe: the zeolite to the status of a medical device

It is as a medical device (a product intended to improve health by non-pharmacological means, such as gastric dressings) that activated zeolite is now available to the public. This breakthrough thus enables as many people as possible to access this product thanks to an Austrian company, Panaceo International GmbH, which is responsible for the preparation of irrefutable technical dossiers, has obtained the registration of this unique mineral under this status.

Panaceo and Stress Oxidative

Oxidative stress is a phenomenon characterized by a preponderance of free radicals compared to natural antioxidant protective mechanisms.

Free radicals have become a focus of medical research in a few years. It is known that these molecules with a missing electron are involved in the development of all kinds of pathologies (cancers, diabetes, degenerative diseases and cardiovascular diseases, etc.), as well as in the process of organic aging of cells.

Changes in lifestyles and habits, the presence in the environment, food or everyday use of toxic compounds and heavy metals are all factors in the overproduction of free radicals and the "diseases of civilisation" have now become real epidemics.

The antioxidant action and mechanism of action of activated zeolite – marketed as PANACEO – were the subject of the study by University Professor Dr. Peter M. Abuja, Institute for Biophysics and X-ray Structure Research in Graz, Austria.

For this, various preparations for the oxidation of emulsions were chosen, imitating the processes of lipoperoxidation. The results indicate a reduction in the formation of free radicals produced by lipoperoxidation, revealing in practice that the formation of free radicals in the stomach can be slowed down by half if a single capsule is taken at the same time as a meal.

It should be noted that the comparison of the efficacy of PANACEO with “traditional” antioxidants is not relevant, due to the indissolubility of the zeolite. Indeed, PANACEO, which acts thanks to its ion exchanger capacities, would not really block the radicals but it would prevent their catalytic formation, both in pure lipid emulsions and in more complex systems.

Other studies, supervised at the private clinic in Villach in Austria by Dr Thoma (specialist in internal medicine and rheumatology) and Gunzer (an expert sworn in genetic engineering) demonstrate, thanks to a photometric measurement of hydroperoxides in capillary blood, a reduction in these free radicals in all subjects who have regularly taken activated zeolite.

PANACEO: a first-order therapeutic adjuvant

Clinical observations demonstrate the particularly effective action of activated zeolite on the reduction of side effects of chemotherapy. Scientific publications highlight its potential as a therapeutic adjuvant (in addition to prescribed treatments) in particular in cancer cases, since treatments based on activated zeolite demonstrate its ability to significantly improve general health, and to increase the duration and quality of life.

Clinical observations were made at the private clinic in Villach in Austria that clinical observations were made over several years by Dr. Wolfgang Thoma. The spectrum of diseases for which the zeolite was used ranged from malignant tumours of the most different nature (cold carcinoma, pancreas carcinoma, hepatocellular carcinoma), including patients with chronic polyarthritis, ulcerative colitis, multiple sclerosis, repeated infections (e.g. sinusitis), dermatitis, hepatitis, cirrhosis of the liver to topical use in the case of ulcers.

The majority of patients were observed (approx. 70%) who took the activated zeolite as an adjunct to medical treatment, a rapid improvement (perceptible in less than one week) in vitality, general condition and appetite. The results obtained in patients treated with chemotherapy or radiotherapy show that the therapy is better supported with the intake of zeolite, which makes it an adjunct and exceptional fortifier in case of serious diseases. This effect, which is favourable to the healing process, was equally significant for the other diseases mentioned.

PANACEO is composed of clinoptilolith zeolite, a volcanic microporous natural mineral belonging to the family of hydrated aluminosilicates. Its crystal lattice is characterized by a complex spatial structure of regular cavities in which cations (calcium, magnesium, potassium, etc.) are found to crystallization water.

Several studies and observations under clinical conditions concern in particular its very specific antioxidant activity, its favourable action in supporting the organism affected by various pathologies (in internal use as an external application), its ability to reduce the side effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, its general strengthening effect during serious diseases, or its high potential for heavy metal chelating. These results confirm its interest in many areas where research is promising.

Significant improvement in physical fitness and athlete performance

The zeolite microparticles are a major advance in the fields of prevention, sport, as well as for their positive effect on the states of general fatigue and convalescence. Many athletes who use the product named PANACEO SPORT show an increase in their performance and a faster recovery time.

A study was therefore conducted by Dr. Knapitsch (specialist in physical medicine and sports medicine) and sports specialist Mag. S. with a view to confirming these observations. This study was conducted in double-blind placebo, with the volunteers selected on a long-term competition practice criterion. The results indicate the reduction in lactic acidosis caused by intense and sustained muscle exertion: a significant reduction in lactate levels in the group using the active ingredient, but also a significant increase in performance compared to the control group during the different phases of the speed tests. Similar tests were performed with racehorses, which showed a significant decrease in lactate serum plasma values and a reduction in heart rate during exercise after 24 days.

Various products incorporating micronised zeolite have been developed by combining clinoptilolith with other substances of nutritional interest, such as dolomite, nettle, maca root or grape OPC, enabling innovative and specific products to be produced. Their use has no side effects and is part of the current research into substances that delay organic ageing and the development of pathologies resulting from the constant action of free radicals, detoxifying the organism and strengthening general health and vitality. A single biotechnological process

It is the clinoptilolithe micronised by an elaborate grinding technology, called “Tarmechanical Activation”, which has proved to be the most effective. Indeed, this manufacturing process employs a very high kinetic energy, and generates frictions and collisions at high speed in specific centrifuges. The active surface (activacy) of the particles is multiplied and its natural properties are thus highly optimized. This microgrinding technology, which also makes it possible to obtain particles of the order of a micron and less, without overlapping with electrochemical methods, can be considered as an essential element of the efficiency of this mineral, by raising its activity to a level that opens up new perspectives and applications in the living field.

A study at the CNRS (LMPC, Mulhouse, 2005) found changes in textural characteristics of tribomecanic activation particles, which may explain its superior biological activity to that of unactivated zeolite.
